Description:

This herbarium archive was made by cross-referencing the California Blacklist of alien-invasive plant species against the Israeli Blacklist. By doing so, the existence of a global Mediterranean is revealed and thus the absurdity of political borders. These plants were collected from within a 100-meter radius of the HaMiffal art collective thereby highlighting the density and proliferation of migrants whether it be plants or their human companions.  Along with each plant, is a description of the plant's Latin and vernacular names, their arrival date in Israel and their place of origin. It is no accident that the dates of arrival reflect the eras of Palestine, the British Mandate, periods of increasingly multi-ethnic immigration and global shipping trade, as humans are the primary introduction vectors. Many of these plants are now thought to be culturally Israeli because of their place in the cultural landscape as much as the botanical one.
